When I’m crocheting things for my dolls, there are times when I can not resist a bit of whimsy. This is the result of a momentary indulgence in silliness…

Misaki's Winter Woolens

Misaki's Winter Woolens

Today’s model is Bonjour Misaki (pink hat version). She is wearing a funny hat that I made – the top is a flower shape, kind of a nod to Dr. Seuss and springtime. She’s also sporting a scarf, caplet ( a snug cape) and a demi-sweater (basically a partial sweater – sleeves  connected across with a neck opening, minus a full bodice for wearing over a corset top)  –  all patterns created and crocheted by me. And to round out her fashion: Model of the Moment Marisa’s corset top (though you can’t see it), Porcelain Beauty Kesenia’s trousers and Checking Out Colette’s boots (you can see the boots in the full length shots on my Flickr pages).

Her photo was taken on February sixteenth during a little late morning snow shower in our front yard.

I like to give the illusion of movement to my doll photos. Like a moment was caught right before she moved along. Sometimes it works, sometimes…not so much. This one, I think, shows some action.

Misaki on the Climb

Misaki on the Climb

Today’s model is Bonjour Misaki. She is wearing a Barbie fashion pack mini dress, Cynthia Rowley’s slip and new Fashionistas shoes. Her photo was taken in the morning sunshine in our backyard. We’re having a heatwave and doing anything outdoors after nine in the morning is pretty rough. Tomorrow looks like more of the same.

I’m not a Mom (unless you count my two little cats) but I have a mother that I love very much. I also have an awesome mother-in-law. Since my inlaws live down south, we sent along a present and connected via telephone. We also drove into NJ to meet up with my Mom, stepdad and  brother and had an early dinner out. Fun times.

We had a fun day today. The flea market’s open for the season, so we swung by there first. We only found a few little things, but the pickings will get better as the weather gets warmer. Next, we took a long ride in the country. Beautiful scenery, but not really anywhere to park and shoot photos, still fun to see though. So we went home and took a stop by the playground and the pond. And that was a very good spot for dollie photos.

Amelie

Amelie

Today’s model is Bonjour Amelie. She is wearing a top from a Barbie fashion pack over Barbie leggings, Bratz Treasures Cloe’s  leg warmers, Trendy Girl Misaki’s shoes, a bracelet from one of the Bratz Treasures dolls (maybe Yasmin?), Wild & Sexy Tune Momoko’s necklace and a dollar store hair clip. Her photo was taken by the pond in our community in the afternoon. The sun was winking in and out of the clouds and the wind rippled across the pond in waves. Great fun!

I’m not really a fan of watching reruns or repeats unless they’re really good. If they are, then I’ll watch something ten times or more. I’m hoping that if you’re like me, you really liked yesterday’s photo.

A Second Look

A Second Look

Look familiar? Yeah. It’s Bonjour Misaki again. After I finished the set of photos at the PEEC center yesterday, I took some more in our backyard. Because the overcast lighting we had been experiencing dried up and blew away on the ride home. The clouds parted and the sun came out. It was like a brand new day. So I grabbed Miss Misaki and she had a second round in front of the camera.

I Hope You Agree That Miss Misaki Is Worth A Second Look.

Today was a fun-filled busy day and I’m getting this in just under the wire. I’d say,”Where did the time go?”, but I know exactly where it went. LOL, we had fun all day – shopping, a ride out to the PEEC (Pennsylvania Environmental Education Center), a quick bite to eat and then off to the Casino to meet up with my Mom and stepfather. We didn’t win big today (never stops me from trying ;)) but it was a good time. Now the day is quickly coming to an end and I must get the blog up. 🙂

I know where snowflakes really come from. But I’m a dreamer. And when those perfect little crystalline masterpieces  begin to tumble and drift down to earth, I imagine something a bit more magical.

Setting The Snowflakes Adrift

Setting The Snowflakes Adrift

In my mind’s eye, I see a maiden dressed in white reposing on a glittering cloud. Wishing the snowflakes into existence, each appears in her hands for a moment before she expels a gentle breath, sending them out into the world.

My model for the recreation of my vision is Bonjour Misaki. She is wearing the long coat from Holiday Visions: Winter Fantasy Barbie and a silver Barbie fashion pack mini dress. Her cloud was created by laying down a piece of white poster board in the sun by my front door. Then I layered Buffalo Snow (polyester batting with iridescent plastic flecks used in miniature Christmas village displays) on top of it and pushed, squished and moved it around until it looked cloud-like. After adding my model to the scene, I sprinkled some sparkly fake snow around and added some snowflakes that I made out of copy paper with two different snowflake-shaped hole punches.

I took a lot of photos, because I was having fun. I tried some with and without the flash. I also had a blast with my camera’s different white balance settings. The tungsten and fluorescent light corrections add an aqua blue and violet blue tinge to the photos that I really liked.  LOL, it makes them look cold and dreamy, I think.

Today’s models are Pure Evil Misaki, Lady Like Misaki, Dynamite Girls Chill Factor Neve, Amazon exclusive Crazy Girl Misaki and Bonjour Amelie. Pure Evil is wearing an Audrey Hepburn Barbie dress, Modern Circle Barbie’s chiffon wrap as a scarf in her hair, Mary Kate and Ashley Barbie shoes, Mattel bracelets and a necklace I got at a doll show. Lady Like is wearing a Barbie Snow White dress and Winx dolls shoes. Neve is wearing a Barbie basketball uniform and Barbie socks & sneakers. Crazy Girl is wearing a Barbie Wonder Woman costume. Lastly, Amelie is wearing Witchy Witch Misaki’s dress and stockings, Barbie’s pointed hat and Fashion Royalty boots. The trick or treat bags were made by me out of a grocery bag, pipe cleaners, tape and stickers. The Halloween treat buckets were flea market finds.

The photo shoot was set up outdoors in my side yard with two hay bales behind them (to lean against – it was a windy day). It was taken in the early evening under overcast skies with the aid of the camera’s flash to brighten the scene.

Today hubby carved the face into our Halloween pumpkin (I cleaned out the guts already) and we lit it up for the little trick or treaters. Our community schedules a set date and time for going to the houses, and today was the day. They come around in a big group, riding in the backs of trucks and in cars (the houses here in the woods are pretty far apart for walking) all dressed up and looking for candy. We saw many little cuties: monsters and princesses, Dorothy from Oz, Super Mario and a baby bunny. LOL! Before the masses decended, I grabbed a dollie for a photo shoot with the Great Pumpkin.

I love flipping through the fashion magazines. Beautiful, bored looking models stare back at me wearing the most fabulous clothes, shoes and accessories in settings from surreal to mundane. Though my wardrobe is terribly pedestrian, I love the dreamy promise that the dramatically lit ads elicit. “Want to be so beautiful and worldly that even the most fantastic situation barely evokes an emotion? Wear our clothes, shoes, accessories…Be one of us.” LOL

Misaki: Straight From The Fashion Pages

Misaki: Straight From The Fashion Pages

I tried to get that same fashion feel during Misaki’s photo shoot. I took inspiration from Vogue magazine, Lady GaGa and runway shows. Here, Bonjour Misaki rests her fatigued li’l fashion bum on a Barbie loves Jonathan Adler couch modeling a dress from Elements of Surprise Eden, opaque thigh high Mio stockings from My Favorite Doll, Fashion Royalty sunglasses, shoes from Painted Black Colette and various jewels from Mattel, Integrity Toys and some handmade by me.
