I climbed trees when I was a kid, much younger than I am now. I remember spending hours just hanging out up in a tree talking with one my neighborhood friends, watching the world go by. LOL, it’s funny how something that seemed such a simple feat back then leaves me shaking my head in wonder now. You won’t catch me risking a fall (and probably painful broken bones) these days. But what I won’t do, the dolls will…

I love to mix things up. I’m not a “dressy-dressy” type person. I don’t know why, but I seem to resist the whole elegant/fancy/classy type looks thing. Maybe it’s just too serious for me. I like a little humor/silliness/opposition…tongue -in-cheek/cheekiness/sarcasm/tomfoolery…..I just can’t help but be a nonconformist. I’m bratty like that.

That’s not to say I won’t swoon over a beautiful gown every now and then. It just means that I’ll probably pair a sequin dream of a dress with pigtails and bare feet. LOL.

Jeannie Sparkles In The Garden

Today’s model is Crazy Girl Misaki – I’ve named her Jeannie after my Mom. Her hair has been washed out, but still retains it’s original style. (It was a bit stiff with product applied in the factory.) She is wearing an ooak fashion made by Karen Kolkman – a Christmas gift from dear hubby. Her photo was taken in the afternoon in our front garden.

I’m on a tan kick. No, not for me, for my dolls. Maybe it’s the summery weather. Maybe it’s because it’s such a beautiful skin tone. But today I grabbed a tan little cutie for a photo shoot.

Today my aunt hosted my birthday party. She made all my favorite foods and boy, is she an awesome cook! My aunt, uncle and cousin made me feel so loved with all the effort they put out. Dinner was amazing and the desserts were delicious. My mom, stepdad and brother showed up a bit late, but it was a good time once all my peeps were finally together. It was a great birthday party, filled with lots of love and some wonderful presents. Who says it’s not fun getting older? Not me.

What’s better than a rocking horse? Well, since it’s nearly Easter, I’d have to say a “rocking rabbit”. And here it is…

Because taking photos of one doll outdoors isn’t difficult enough, today I decided to photograph a pair of dollies. Fun times. 🙂 We’re having a fairly nice day – fifty degrees, hardly any wind and barely overcast sunshine. However, rumor has it that snow is on the way.

You can’t turn on the TV without hearing about the wintry mix that is headed our way. I’m hoping that it’s more hype than what will actually hit us. We went through a major ice storm a few years back and the power was out for a week. I’d not like to go through that again. But Mother Nature does what she wants. So we’ve loaded up on groceries and firewood with the hopes that we won’t actually need them.

Jeannie and the Icicles

Jeannie and the Icicles

Today’s model is Crazy Girl Misaki. I named her Jeannie after my Mom, since she helped me get her (I did work around her house in exchange for dollie money). She’s wearing a Moxie Girls top and skirt (I had to cut the attached underwear out of the skirt for it to fit), a Fashion Fever Barbie jacket and Trendy Girl Misaki’s scarf. Her photo was taken in front of our house in the late afternoon. As you can see, we already have some big icicles hanging off the roof, so I guess they’ll be super sized when the ice storm comes.

Have you ever gone ice skating? I did when I was younger. They put an ice rink up by the mall and my girlfriends and I would go there, skate badly and make googly eyes at the boys. LOL, I was a teenager back then. 😉 I enjoyed the music and the colored lights,  but the actual act of staying upright on skates without falling and bruising my butt was a tough one for me to master. I did slightly better on roller skates, but I think that’s only because of the removal of frigid temperatures – I’m not so limber when I’m cold. Nowadays a walk in the snow is more my speed.

Bess Helps Rachel Stay Up On Her Skates

Bess Helps Rachel Stay Up On Her Skates

Sometimes I get little doll story ideas that pop into my head.  Just like when I was a kid, I imagine what the dolls would be thinking if they could, consider the personalities they would have and what they’d like to do. That happened today.

I’ve been wanting to do an ice skating photo shoot ever since I found a pair of skates that actually fit Misaki’s big feet. Since then, I’ve imagined my Misaki girls have been giving me big puppy eyes and asking who’s going to be the lucky one to wear them and if it’s going to be any time soon.  It’s been wicked cold here for days, but there’s no ice or snow to be found. So, last night, I put out some water in a round tupperware container to create a mini skating area. This morning it was frozen solid.

I chose Best in Brocade (Bess) and Crazy Girl (Rachel) to get dressed up today. All the clothes that Bess is wearing are borrowed from Barbie: a black turtleneck, Jam & Glam Teresa’s fuzzy pink arm warmers, white fur cuffs, a white fuzzy shrug, a pink fur collar and  Fashion Fever tweed trousers. Her ponytail holder is actually a Fashion Royalty cuff bracelet. She’s also wearing Monogram Best Drama’s earrings, a silkstone brooch and Odd Girl Out’s shoes. Rachel is wearing a Fashion Fever tweed dress, a fur shrug from My Wardrobe Barbe, Muffy Roberts silkstone gloves, Future Bound Luchia’s tights, a pale pink ooak scarf made by me and the infamous Barbie ice skates.  The skates fit because instead of slipping them on, they open on a hinge and clip shut.

I imagined that this was Rachel’s first time on skates and that the ice form I made could serve as her practice rink. I set it out on the lawn in the front yard and had a blast taking pictures. I was bundled up in a whole lotta layers because it was evil cold and windy, too. At one point, I had Rachel standing on the ice block and she slid forward (still standing) when a heavy gust of wind blew. It was too cute.

C’mon, Let’s Ice Skate.

We’ll Do A Figure Eight.

And Jump And Dance And Spin,

Until The Cold Air Sends Us In!

Today’s models are Pure Evil Misaki, Lady Like Misaki, Dynamite Girls Chill Factor Neve, Amazon exclusive Crazy Girl Misaki and Bonjour Amelie. Pure Evil is wearing an Audrey Hepburn Barbie dress, Modern Circle Barbie’s chiffon wrap as a scarf in her hair, Mary Kate and Ashley Barbie shoes, Mattel bracelets and a necklace I got at a doll show. Lady Like is wearing a Barbie Snow White dress and Winx dolls shoes. Neve is wearing a Barbie basketball uniform and Barbie socks & sneakers. Crazy Girl is wearing a Barbie Wonder Woman costume. Lastly, Amelie is wearing Witchy Witch Misaki’s dress and stockings, Barbie’s pointed hat and Fashion Royalty boots. The trick or treat bags were made by me out of a grocery bag, pipe cleaners, tape and stickers. The Halloween treat buckets were flea market finds.

The photo shoot was set up outdoors in my side yard with two hay bales behind them (to lean against – it was a windy day). It was taken in the early evening under overcast skies with the aid of the camera’s flash to brighten the scene.

So, I guess you figured out that I had a wonderful time dragging four Misakis all around Skylands for photos. I hope you aren’t tired of seeing so many shots from our visit. If you have, you’ll be happy to know that this is the final picture from the shoot at Skylands. (And if you haven’t seen enough, there’s plenty more on my Flickr pages, just click the link on the side. 😉 ) I’ve saved the best for last, a group shot of the girls…

The Misaki Girls Invade Skylands

Whoo-Wee! This was a tough one setting up. They went over like dominoes a few times, but no dollies were harmed in the making of the photo. 🙂 No trick photography here, just careful balancing and patience. It was much like building a house of cards, LOL. The photo was taken in the afternoon in bright (and hot, whew!) sunlight.
