I remember growing up with a whole gaggle of smiley-faced Barbie dolls. Eternally joyful, their frozen grins portrayed an almost manic state of elation. Not a frown nor a single look of displeasure in the bunch. Which is probably why I now find non-smiling dolls so enchanting. From sardonic smirks to thoughtful expressions – even those in-your-face, apparently down-turned mouths that convey such disdain….I get a kick out of them all. Pout on, little dollies. It will only endear you more to me.

Where Are You Hiding Your Smile?

Where Are You Hiding Your Smile?

Today’s model is Making A Scene Erin. She is wearing a hat & scarf set that I crocheted myself. Her wardrobe also consists of: London Calling Kyu’s sweater, London Calling Holland’s turtleneck top, Mattel Stardoll fashion pack skirt, Fashion Royalty tights (maybe from Picture This Erin? not sure), Rock Wedding: Rocking Ever After Lillith’s shoes and some random Barbie sunglasses. Her photos were taken in the waxing and waning sunlight streaming through our front door. A crumpled and reflattened piece of kitchen tinfoil served as a backdrop.

I experimented with a bunch of different options on my camera during this shoot – high contrast black & white, high-key, color pop…all kinds of stuff. It was fun to try them out. Some I like, others feel like a bit of overkill. But it’s neat to experiment, I think. Though mostly a purist, I think a little tweak of “camera magic” is exciting once in a while.

What Is It About A Pretty Girl’s Frown?

A Smile Is An Easy Invitation, But A Pout Is A Challenge.

I Betcha I Can Give Her A Reason To Grin.

We’re well into crunch time – the big day fast approaches. Soon it will be Christmas! I’ve been baking and decorating cookies, the tree has been trimmed and some of the presents are wrapped. I’ve been a busy little elf. We had a bit of snow, too. So, it truly is looking a lot like Christmas in these parts. Amid the hustle and bustle, I even found time to grab a few holiday dollie photos.

Season's Greetings!

Season’s Greetings!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Today’s model is Fame by Frame Imogen from the Tropicalia convention. She is wearing an elf hat crocheted by me, a sweater (sold as a tree ornament) from Christopher & Banks, LIV dolls Moolight Dance Daniela’s dress, Barbie stockings, boots from the 2008 “The Heist” convention Life of the Party fashion, Fashion Royalty earrings and bracelets and rings that are actually craft store jump rings from the jewelry department. I also created the wreath myself. It’s fashioned out of green wired holiday ribbon from Walmart and trimmed with a bow from a spool of ribbon found at Michaels in the dollar bin. Imogen’s photos were taken a couple of day’s ago in our yard – the first two in the front yard (in a snow pile that I carved a little path in – and, yes, she is standing on her own…with a little help from the snow. LOL) and the last image was taken in our backyard.

We Wish You A Merry Christmas

And A Happy New Year!

Wishing Everyone A Very Happy Holiday!

Today’s model is Great Pretender Lillith. She is wearing a dress from one of the past grocery store holiday Barbie dolls, Fashion Royalty stockings, shoes from a recent Fashion Royalty shoe pack (only available at the last convention or through the W club/Integrity Toys site), ooak earrings (made by me) and an ooak crocheted hat, scarf  & cuffs (also made by me). The bench was a lucky flea market find. Lillith’s photo was taken in our front yard near sunset yesterday evening.

Yay! Yay! It’s Christmas Day!
