There’s been so much going on this week, I feel like the mayor of Crazy Town. Our washer conked out (hey, it was sixteen years old) and we had to get a new one. Which means dragging the old one out and carrying the new one in. I can tell you, I’m no where near as strong as I’d like to be. I can do it, but I’ll be sore tomorrow. Also, our little boy kitty’s cancer is showing signs of returning, so he’s back on chemo meds. We’ve been having a severe heatwave, so I’ve been running the air conditioning for the cats (my boy’s old and the heat makes him uncomfortable). Problem is, I’m not really a fan of air conditioning – it makes my throat scratchy, I don’t like the noise and I’d rather swelter than close the windows and be all bottled up with AC. So I kept running outside to escape. Anyway, the heatwave broke with severe thunderstorms this evening – hubby got caught in a hail storm on the way home from work. Thank goodness, no damage to him or the car and no hail in our yard. At least our garden’s safe. Bah, there’s more…but that’s enough sharing for now. I’m looking forward to some normal, ordinary, boring days – so if you see ’em, send some my way. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Summer Wild Eden

Summer Wild Eden

Today’s model is Wild At Heart Eden. She is wearing a Watbetty bikini and earrings that I made myself. Her photo was taken in the midday sun-dappled shade of the trees in our front yard on our new garden arch.

I confess, we did not color Easter eggs tonight. But we have been indulging in Easter candy all week. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And we had a ham for dinner tonight. Mmmm! Tomorrow we go to visit with family in NJ. I’m already dreaming of the food fest we’ll have there. *drool*

Happy Easter From The Bunny Triplets

Happy Easter From The Bunny Triplets

Today’s models are The Great Pretender Lillith, Elements Of Surprise Lillith and Style Mantra Eden. They are all wearing various Mattel fashions, accessories and footwear. Their bunny ears are homemade by me – I used bumpy and straight chenille stems from the craft store. Because it seems it never stops raining here, their photo was taken indoors. The “floor” is a lemon wood door sample, the background is poster board. The scene was lit by two desk lamps and a full-strength flash. Color correction and text was added with my camera’s photo editing program.

There’s something about snow that just invites play time. Skiing, sledding, snowball fights, building snowmen, even just taking a walk…all that pristine white calls out to us. One of the first things I learned to do on a snowy day is to make snow angels. It’s a chilly endeavor, and sometimes the snow goes right down your back, but it’s so pretty…and fun.

Making Snow Angels

Today’s model is Style Mantra Eden. She’s bundledย  up in all the colors of a brilliant winter sunset. She is wearing My Scene Masquerade Kenzie’s jacket, a scarf made by me, mittens clipped off of a Christopher & Banks sweater ornament, a Barbie fashion pack mini dress, Poppy Parker’s Poetry In Motion ruffled slip, leggings from a Barbie fashion pack and Mattel’s Kimora Lee Simmons’ boots. Her photo was taken in the evening, under the rays of a setting sun, in my front yard.

I love the holidays. We watched some Christmas specials last night. I’ve made plans for shopping trips and cookie baking later in the month with my mom,ย  aunt and brother. There’s snow in the forecast for later in the week.ย  I’ve got presents tucked away, awaiting wrapping. There is a feeling of happy anticipation, a willingness to do good deeds and a thankfulness for even the simplest things.

Eden Playing Reindeer Games

Eden Playing Reindeer Games

Today’s model is Wild at Heart Eden.ย  She is wearing the gold beaded top from Katiana Jimenez Barbie, a Barbie shrug, a My Scene fashion pack skirt, a silkstone Barbie brooch, Barbie earrings, a My Scene Barbie bracelet, Spring in Tokyo Barbie’s necklace and some gold bangle bracelets that are actually jewelry making links from the craft store. Eden is posed on the back of a golden reindeer that I found at Kohls. Her photo was taken in front of my upside-down Christmas tree. I did some more creative tweaking with my camera to keep the scene warm and twinkling with the feeling of Christmas. I used an 800 iso film speed setting, adjusted the white balance to compensate for the lash, lowered the flash strength and put a gauze mask over the flash itself.

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know of my frustration with artificial lighting. Ugh, how it tortures me! Well, today it was actually my friend.

Romantically Illuminated Eden

Romantically Illuminated Eden

I spent the day searching out some early Christmas gifts with my Mom today. After shopping ’til we nearly dropped, we headed back to her house. It was too dark to take photos outside, so I set up my doll for a quick photo shoot under a Tiffany style lamp in the living room. I love the way it lit her – all mysterious like and super moody. ๐Ÿ™‚

Today’s model is Elements of Surprise Eden. She is wearing Pure Evil Misaki’s blouse, Trendy Girl Misaki’s trousers, a knitted wrap made by me, Fashion Royalty earrings (not sure who’s specifically) and Optic Verve Agnes’ shoes (not visible in this photo). She is also carrying the handbag from Pearlescence Veronique.

I got a new pair of dollies today and I just couldn’t wait to photograph them! I took some pictures indoors with the flash, because it was so cold and windy out. Blah. I didn’t really like the whole “indoors with a flash” result, so I bit the bullet and hauled my dollies outside. Much better…colder, and the wind did present a challenge… but the photos rock! I love shooting outdoors in the sunshine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wild at Heart Lillith and Eden

Wild at Heart Lillith and Eden

Today’s models are the new Wild at Heart Eden & Lillith from the recent Dark Romance Fashion Royalty convention. They are so wonderful! Lillith and Eden are wearing their awesome original outfits, though I think I have the shoes and jewelry switched from how they were originally intended. No matter, my collection is all about playing – not whether or not all the fashion pieces are on the correct dolls, LOL. Head on over to my Flickr photostream if you’d like to see more – I took a ton of pictures.

If one is good, two are better. I like the challenge of posing two dolls together. But, a challenge it is. When I take doll photos, I’m constantly checking everything: lighting, focus, body position, hair flyaways, glare on the eyes, how the clothing is laying, background, tilt of the head…and so much more. Add another doll and not only is all that doubled, but I have to watch how they look together. I want it to look natural, as if they are interacting. A tough order, but when it works out it’s awesome.

Lillith and Eden

Lillith and Eden

I chose the twins for today’s photo shoot. The Great Pretender Lillith is wearing a Barbie dress, Fashion Royalty earrings and tiny hair clips from the dollar store (and you can’t see them, but she’s wearing Dynamite Girls shoes). Style Mantra Eden is also wearing a Barbie dress, Fashion Royalty earrings and a Barbie hair twist over the elastic holding her ponytail (and you can’t see her shoes either, but they are from Barbie as well). *If you want to see full length pictures, just check out my Flickr link. They are seated on marble spheres purchased at Hobby Lobby. The photo was taken in my backyard in late evening sunlight.

Besides dolls, I’m also a sucker for stuffed animals. Mini ones, big ones, squishy, fluffy, soft and cuddly – what’s not to love? I like bunnies and sheep, skunks and rats…oh, and kitties, of course.

 Eden and her Big Kitty

Eden and her Big Kitty

Today’s model is Style Mantra Eden. She’s wearing a hoodie of unknown origin and a pair of shorts I made myself. Her stuffed leopard is from a little shop down the shore. The photo was taken indoors on my couch with a half-strength flash to avoid totally blowing it out.

Break out the red, white and blue because we’re kicking off the fourth of July weekend. It’s time for a barbecue, fun in the sun and fireworks. I’ll be eating homemade potato salad, drinking some hard lemonade and enjoying spending time with my family. I made mini cheesecake bites and fresh blueberry syrup and bought some blueberry pomegranate ice cream for dessert. The weather forecast is looking good – sunshine and blue skies all the way. I can’t wait!

The Girls in Red, White & Blue

The Girls in Red, White & Blue

Okay, I got ambitious with today’s photo shoot. Five little lovelies all dressed for the fourth in red, white and blue. Left to right: Making A Scene Erin, Pillow Talk Poppy Parker, Pretty Calculated Erin, Elements Of Surprise Eden and Young, Rich, Beautiful Erin. My summer girls. They’re wearing several different fashion pieces from Mattel and Integrity Toys. I set them up in the front yard with a bench facing backwards to lean against and happily avoided toppling them like dominoes. LOL. The late afternoon sun was poking in and out of the clouds and it was breezy which made shooting a challenge. It wasn’t too bad, as I came away with a with a fun group shot. Some days I wish I had more time to play. Ah, well, there’s always tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™‚

As you’ve seen, I love taking outdoor photos of my dolls. And I adore natural lighting. The sunlight is so amorphous – constantly changing, shifting, varying in intensity – especially at sunrise and sunset. It can go from pale and trembling light into a full blown glare in mere moments. Or shining yellow sunbeams to watery blue diffusion with the passing of a stray cloud. Billowing fog burns off within minutes and a rose gold dawn turns to brass and then silver before you even realize it is slipping away. The more momentary or scarce, the more I wish to capture it. Freeze it on film as proof of it’s brief existence.

Eden In The Misty Morning Light

Eden In The Misty Morning Light

Today’s model is Fashion Royalty’s Style Mantra Eden. I think she is one of the most beautiful dolls ever. She’s wearing an outfit made for Poppy Parker called Poetry in Motion. The name fits as it is very feminine and romantic. This morning we had a pale peach sunrise that gave way to misty fog. Then the sun intensified briefly to a molten gold burning nimbly into bright white rays that quickly stole the moisture from the atmosphere. It was so pretty and changed so fast. I hustled around the yard, finding prime places to take advantage of the lighting before it was gone.
