Well, if you saw my last post, then you’ll recognize today’s model. Last time, her photos were taken indoors. But, I find that I really enjoy it when I can go outside and play…..

Today’s photos were taken in our front yard a little over a week  ago. Amazing what a difference moving a photo shoot outdoors makes! I swear my little dollies breathe a sigh of relief when they get to go outside…..well, maybe it’s just me. I do so love to get out there and frolic under the big, blue sky. Ahhhhhhhhhh. 🙂

I remember growing up with a whole gaggle of smiley-faced Barbie dolls. Eternally joyful, their frozen grins portrayed an almost manic state of elation. Not a frown nor a single look of displeasure in the bunch. Which is probably why I now find non-smiling dolls so enchanting. From sardonic smirks to thoughtful expressions – even those in-your-face, apparently down-turned mouths that convey such disdain….I get a kick out of them all. Pout on, little dollies. It will only endear you more to me.

Where Are You Hiding Your Smile?

Where Are You Hiding Your Smile?

Today’s model is Making A Scene Erin. She is wearing a hat & scarf set that I crocheted myself. Her wardrobe also consists of: London Calling Kyu’s sweater, London Calling Holland’s turtleneck top, Mattel Stardoll fashion pack skirt, Fashion Royalty tights (maybe from Picture This Erin? not sure), Rock Wedding: Rocking Ever After Lillith’s shoes and some random Barbie sunglasses. Her photos were taken in the waxing and waning sunlight streaming through our front door. A crumpled and reflattened piece of kitchen tinfoil served as a backdrop.

I experimented with a bunch of different options on my camera during this shoot – high contrast black & white, high-key, color pop…all kinds of stuff. It was fun to try them out. Some I like, others feel like a bit of overkill. But it’s neat to experiment, I think. Though mostly a purist, I think a little tweak of “camera magic” is exciting once in a while.

About a month ago, the morning light breaking across the yard prompted me to grab a recently redressed doll and head out for a fast photo shoot. The cold weather and awaiting errands kept it short and sweet.

High End Envy Erin

High End Envy Erin

Today’s model is High End Envy Erin. Her ponytail was brushed out upon arrival. She is wearing Pretty Calculated Erin’s shirt, Optic Verve Agnes’ trousers and various Fashion Royalty jewels (cuff bracelet is borrowed from Truly Madly Deeply Agnes, not sure on the others). Erin’s photo was taken in our back yard in the early morning sunlight.

I’ve got a new doll that I’m just GaGa over. (*pun intended, tee-hee!) She’s a beauty and a cutie and I’m oh, so glad she’s mine.

Flashing Her Pearly Whites

Today’s model is the W club exclusive You Look So Fine Erin from the Rock Wedding Trio. She’s the last doll made with the original face mold, future issues will use a new one. I’ve collected every incarnation of Erin – she’s been a fave of mine since her introduction. I still remember gasping over the prototype shown during an after hours party at FAO Schwarz in NYC. It’s the end of an era, I tell ya. But at least she goes out on top, as I believe this is one of the prettiest versions of her. And they gave Erin teeth this time – usually her lips are painted to look slightly parted, with the space merely shadowed – now her pearly whites are painted in. Such a fun, different look for our little NuFace model! She seems breathless and flirty…and a bit knowing. What secrets could you tell us Miss Salston? LOL.

Anyway, onto the particulars…

Erin’s hair was washed out, combed and air dried for this photo shoot. She is wearing a crocheted bikini (so hot right now) made by me, a Fashion Royalty cuff bracelet, one of a kind earrings and beaded link bracelet created by yours truly, Barbie’s shoes (not sure if they are silkstone or a best models editions)  and she holds DG Jasper’s hat.

Both photos were taken on a partly cloudy day last month (I’m always so behind getting to the photos lately, oh well) in the afternoon. The first was taken on an old mill wheel against our fence, the next was taken by a tree in our side yard. (If you hop on over to my Flickr pages via the link to the right, you’ll see some photos taken of Erin on the rocky area in our backyard, too.)

Today’s model is Clash Control Erin. She is wearing Lady In Waiting Dania’s dress (with a Fashion Royalty “W” pin attached to it’s bodice) worn over Monogram Discreet’s bodysuit (because Dania’s dress is made from fabric that can and will stain a doll if worn alone), a handmade crinoline slip for fullness, Pure Evil Misaki’s stockings, Outsider Misaki’s boots and Fashion Royalty earrings. Her photos were taken earlier this week when we visited the NJ Botanical Gardens at Skylands Manor. The pictures where taken in the afternoon under changeable overcast/sunny skies.

I took so many pictures. Hit my Flickr link if you wish to see the rest. 🙂

Erin In The Sun

Erin In The Sun

Today’s model is The Making Of Erin. She is wearing a Dynamite Girls top, the shortie bottoms from the Lemon Kick fashion included with the My Favorite Barbie: 1971 Malibu Barbie giftset, Barbie shoes, Fashion Royalty earrings, a 4mm jump ring worn as a finger ring and a Barbie bracelet. Her photo was taken in our backyard in the late evening sunlight.

It’s funny, sometimes when I haven’t played with a doll in a while, I can forget how much I love her. But as soon as she’s in front of the camera lens, it all comes flooding back.

Young, Rich, Beautiful Erin

Young, Rich, Beautiful Erin

Today’s model is Young, Rich, Beautiful Erin. She’s wearing Lady Like Amelie’s bodysuit, Model of the Moment: Pretty Young Thing Marisa’s trousers, Fashion Royalty heels and sunglasses, a Barbie bracelet and a necklace made by me. She’s also carrying a purse from I can’t remember where. Her photo was taken in our front yard in the afternoon shade.

And the Irish theme continues…

Erin Goes Irish

Erin Goes Irish

Today’s model is Picture This Erin. She is wearing Irish Barbie’s dress and sitting on a flea market bench in our side yard. Irish heather and shamrocks were in short supply, this patch of green moss was the best I could do. The afternoon was overcast and dreary, so I set the camera’s white balance to “cloudy” and upped the exposure to express a sunnier scene than reality provided.

I know it’s a little ways off, but I’ve been thinking about St. Patrick’s Day. It seems such a festive holiday…drinking green beer, watching a parade march down Main street and dreaming of the gold at the end of the rainbow. I just read a book with a modern twist on leprechaun lore, Artemis Fowl written by Eoin Colfer, and it was original, fun and entertaining. So I guess that’s why I’ve been bitten by the green bug so early.

Erin & The Wearing of the Green

Erin & The Wearing of the Green

Today’s model is The Making Of Erin. She’s wearing Clash control Erin’s leather trench coat, Elements Of Surprise Lillith’s boots, Fashion Royalty tights, LIV Moonlight Dance Daniela’s dress, Hourglass Kesenia’s earrings and a ring that is actually a solid 4mm jump ring from the jewelry section of the craft store. Though you can’t see in this photo, she is also wearing multiple bangle bracelets that are actually jewelry making links – also from the craft store. Erin’s photo was taken in my side yard in the diffuse morning light.

If you follow the doings at Integrity Toys, then you know that they just rolled out preview photos of this year’s collections. I’ve been busily dreaming of which ones to put on my preorder list and hoping I’ll be able to get them. The edition sizes are quite limited and the list of dolls is long. There was one doll revealed that captured my attention and my imagination: Nu.Fantasy Pure. She’s a couture take on Snow White from the fairy tales and utilizes the Fashion Royalty NuFace “Erin” head mold. I love the name. Pure. So today’s shoot was inspired by an Erin doll named “Pure”.

Pure Erin

Pure Erin

Today’s model is Making A Scene Erin. She is wearing Ask Any Girl Poppy Parker’s dress. And surely she looks to fit the definition of pure, no? Oh, there’s an undercurrent of sass, mystery, melancholy and knowing – she wouldn’t be herself otherwise. 😉 But I like that about her. The photo was taken around midday on the road in front of my house, after thunderstorms moved through and the melting snows turned an ordinary day into a misty, foggy dreamworld.
