This is what Trick or Treating looked like this year in the Poconos…

It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas...uh, Halloween

It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas...er, Halloween

Actually, Halloween was postponed in our community until this upcoming Saturday. Which is just as well since the snow storm on Saturday knocked our power out for a couple of days. Yeah, Mother Nature was giving out all tricks and no treats, LOL.

Today’s model is Portrait in Black Poppy Parker. She is wearing a crocheted hat and scarf made by me and the jacket, top and trousers from My Scene Barbie’s Chillin’ Out Madison. Her photo was taken in our side yard on Sunday in the morning sunlight. The pumpkin is a little lantern that I picked up at Gertrude Hawk Chocolates in the mall.

Ho, Ho, Ho, Happy Halloween!

Pure Evil is wearing an Audrey Hepburn Barbie dress, Modern Circle Barbie’s chiffon wrap as a scarf in her hair, Mary Kate and Ashley Barbie shoes, Mattel bracelets and a necklace I got at a doll show. Lady Like is wearing a Barbie Snow White dress and Winx dolls shoes. Neve is wearing a Barbie basketball uniform and Barbie socks & sneakers. Crazy Girl is wearing a Barbie Wonder Woman costume. Lastly, Amelie is wearing Witchy Witch Misaki’s dress and stockings, Barbie’s pointed hat and Fashion Royalty boots. The trick or treat bags were made by me out of a grocery bag, pipe cleaners, tape and stickers. The Halloween treat buckets were flea market finds.

The photo shoot was set up outdoors in my side yard with two hay bales behind them (to lean against – it was a windy day). It was taken in the early evening under overcast skies with the aid of the camera’s flash to brighten the scene.

Today hubby carved the face into our Halloween pumpkin (I cleaned out the guts already) and we lit it up for the little trick or treaters. Our community schedules a set date and time for going to the houses, and today was the day. They come around in a big group, riding in the backs of trucks and in cars (the houses here in the woods are pretty far apart for walking) all dressed up and looking for candy. We saw many little cuties: monsters and princesses, Dorothy from Oz, Super Mario and a baby bunny. LOL! Before the masses decended, I grabbed a dollie for a photo shoot with the Great Pumpkin.

Today’s model is Bonjour Amelie wearing Witchy Witch Misaki’s dress and stockings, Barbie’s pointed hat and Fashion Royalty boots. She’s standing next to the pumpkin that hubby carved. It was taken after dark, lit with the aid of a flash and the porch light.

Ah, is there anything more romantic than a Costume Ball? All dressed up in an alter ego, gliding across the dance floor in time with the band. I remember the scene played over & over in Labyrinth, and Beauty and the Beast and even last night on The Vampire Diaries. I probably think it’s so wonderful because I’m not much of a dancer. Although the hubby and I are good for at least one nice, slow dance at any wedding we attend. We can’t resist the memories of our own wedding, you know. But I can guarantee we won’t win any awards doing it. 😉

Halloween At The Monster Ball

Halloween At The Monster Ball

Today’s models are Mint Mod Misaki and an unknown monster figure I found at the flea market. Misaki is dressed as a Fairytale Princess in the fashion from Rapunzel Barbie. The Mysterious Stranger is wearing the top, pants (top & pants are all one piece and the top is sleeveless) and shoes from a Ken tuxedo fashion and a jacket from another carded Ken fashion. The jacket was a tight fit with his ginormous hands going through the sleeves, but it eventually went on. They are dancing the night away on an indoor set consisting of: a black foam core floor, Halloween craft papers pinned to a foam core wall, a strand of Halloween lights and various Halloween props all found at the flea market. The scene was set up in my living room and lit with the camera’s flash.

Many of the creatures associated with Halloween fly. You’ve got ghosts floating about, bats winging across the sky and witches on broomsticks.  With all that traffic, it’s a wonder that there’s room for a full moon to rise overhead.

Batty, Bewitching Barbie

Batty, Bewitching Barbie

Who needs a broom when you’ve got bat power? LOL. Today’s model is fittingly a Frankendollie: a Hard Rock Cafe Barbie head on a Fashionistas Cutie Barbie body. She is wearing the witch costume from this year’s Target Happy Halloween Barbie. My little dollie is riding on the back of a 3D wall hanging bat decoration that I got at the flea market. I love his colors. For the scene, I took a piece of fluorescent green poster board and used pushpins to attach it to a piece of rigid foam core. Then I attached the bat to the background with a pushpin. I took the whole thing outside, leaned it at a bit of angle against a chair on the porch. Lastly, I sat my dollie on batty’s back and took my photos.  It was pretty overcast and rainy today, but it did brighten up towards evening. So some photos were taken with the camera’s flash, while others were lit by daylight only.

Okay, so let me give you a little “look” into my picture-taking time. I go outside in the afternoon and see a perfectly sunlit picture spot. I go inside, work on making a little doll mask (takes much longer than I anticipated). Choose a dollie, find an outfit, grab some accessories, spend a while searching for shoes for her big ol’ feet. Go outside. Hmmm. It’s really cloudy and kinda dark. Hmm. Wait for a break in the clouds. It starts to get darker. Go inside and check the weather radar. Spot a thin line of heavy clouds only over my area. Get really creative with profanities. Go back outside and hope it blows over. It starts to drizzle. See a bright spot forming on the horizon. Wait and hope. Finally give up and decide that using a flash won’t be that bad. Setup dollie and take photos. Rejoice when it finally gets bright enough for a few flash free pictures. Yeah, sometimes that’s how it goes.

Poppy Is Ready For All Hallows Eve

Poppy Is Ready For All Hallows Eve

Today’s model is Beatnik Blues Poppy Parker. She is wearing a dress and jacket of unknown origins (a freebie sent along with an outfit I purchased from a fellow collector), an OOAK scarf made by me and the shoes from the Hollywood Royalty Josephine Baker: The Jazz Age giftset. The mask and spiders were made by me from felt, pipe cleaners, pompoms and other bits that I got at the craft store. The pumpkin trick-or-treat pail was today’s flea market find. Poppy is sitting on the railing of my lower deck overlooking the backyard.
