The snow is still piled up all over the place, but it is slowly melting down. We’ll just have to enjoy it before winter subsides to spring.

Today’s model is no stranger, you saw Lilith in the last post here. But she’s buttoned up her jacket, snuggled into her scarf and continues to brave the great, frozen outdoors.

The Icehouse has melted. In the next photos, not much remains.

The world is still wrapped in winter white, but for how long?

Lily’s photos were taken all around our yard on a sunny winter day in early February.

Though Snowy Signs Remain,

Winter Will Soon Surrender To Spring.

Solitary Snowy Solace

Solitary Snowbound Solace

Today’s model is Wild At Heart Lilith. She is wearing an open-ended ponytail hat crocheted by me, Dynamite Girls: London Calling Kyu’s coat (I love this coat!), FR2 Modern Sensibility Dasha’s tank top, Urban Outfitting Nadja’s trousers, Integrity Toys boots (from one of the Model Behavior girls?) and a pair of gloved hands (not sure who they originally belonged to, really). Lily’s photos were taken in the ice house built in our front yard, in the morning on the first day of February.

I love how the ice house sometimes acts like a light box, diffusing and amplifying the sunlight. The cold had me sneaking in and out of the house to warm up and didn’t lend to spending time changing poses, but I do love the shots I ended up with. Fun times. 🙂

A roof has been added to the ice house. Yay! There was trepidation for fear of a collapse, but it was unfounded. Some wet snow was used to seal the joins, and it turned out surprisingly solid. Woo-hoo! Onto the photos…

Snuggle Buddies Cruz & Poppy

Today’s models are Poppy (…yeah, you saw her yesterday…but today she’s brought a friend) and London Calling Cruz from the Dynamite Girls collection. Cruz is wearing his original trousers, a scarf that I crocheted for him, turtleneck and boots from My Generation Chip Farnsworth III and a Color Infusion: Style Lab Fashion Experiment 5 jacket. Their photo was taken inside the newly renovated Ice House in our front yard on the last day of January.

Come Freeze With Me

Today’s model is the hair workshop Poppy Parker doll from the Tropicalia convention. She is wearing a hat and scarf crocheted by me, a shirt from a Ken fashion pack, a Fashion Fever tunic top (all you see in the photos is the polka-dot ruffled bottom of it), Dynamite Girls: Chill Factor Aria’s skirt, Style Mantra Eden’s tights and a pair of Only Hearts Club doll’s sneakers. Her photo was taken in our front yard within the ice walls that were constructed during our deep freeze of a winter.

This winter has supplied plenty to work with: extreme cold snaps, feet of snow, frost and fog. They all figure in when a photo shoot is planned. Though it’s easy to run from rough weather, taking advantage of it requires a little more finesse. Thinking outside the box….or inside of the ice box really comes into play.

Locked In Winter's Icy Embrace

Locked In Winter’s Icy Embrace

Today’s model is Foto Fab Poppy Parker. She is wearing Sweet in Switzerland Poppy’s furry hat & hand warmer, the jumpsuit from Barbie’s Winter Weekend fashion, a hoodie sweater (originally sold as a Christmas ornament) from Christopher and Banks (a women’s clothing store) and Pure Evil Misaki’s boots.

Poppy’s ice enclosure was made by freezing water in baking pans with a raised edge. Each frozen panel was placed (taller side up) in the snow to create walls and then were secured with a “mortar” of snow mixed with water to seal the joins. I froze the pans of water during a cold week near January’s end when the days stayed below freezing and the nights were in the teens or single digits. It was an ambitious plan, but it made an otherwise unbearably frigid week or so something to look forward to.

Poppy’s “ice house” was constructed in our front yard and it caught the sun’s brilliance for most of the day. It was interesting to watch the changes in illumination as time ticked by; glowing with the morning light shining through it, highlighting the clarity and opacity of the ice and then glimmering, sparkling in the afternoon sunshine. Poppy’s photos were taken under both of these conditions in the images here. I took quite a few, so you can see more by clicking on the link to my Flickr pages.

It’s Winter. Cold…frozen. Yet unmistakably, beauty abounds. Dangerous and harsh, it beckons like the sirens of the sea….dragging unwitting victims to their doom. Come with me. Let the chill in….

Today’s model is the Ice girl from Monster High’s Create A Monster set. She is wearing her original wig ( it’s been slightly trimmed) and Dot Dead Abbey’s dress, shoes & belt (belt is worn as a headband, shoes have had some straps removed because one broke as I tried to put them on). Her photo was taken in our front yard during one of the many snowfalls this month.

It’s really cold. It’s winter, so I guess it’s appropriate. Today was a super busy crazy day for me. Ya ever have a day where you wish you could just fast-forward to the end? That was my day today. But it has come to an end, so it’s all good. Tomorrow will be better. I just know it.

Paris in the Snow

Paris in the Snow

Today’s model is Perfect In Paris Misaki. She’s wearing the fashion from Corduroy Cool brunette Barbie and some Integrity Toys boots (either Fashion Royalty or Misaki’s, I can not remember). Her photo was taken on the side of my driveway, in the afternoon, under overcast skies. It was a quickie shoot since it was wicked cold and a very busy day. But there’s always time for dollies, at least once a day – it’s what keeps me sane. Ya know?

Well, we survived the storm. We had snow, sleet, ice, freezing rain and fog. LOL, quite a bunch of weather, no? It was pretty cool when we got up in the morning – the sleet was falling at a decent clip and it made a sound like a frozen hiss as masses of ice pellets hit the ground. Later, after it turned to a misty drizzle, a fog descended like a gauzy cloak over the landscape. Visibility seriously diminished. I’ll tell you truly, shoveling the driveway was an absolute endurance test. The stuff was like partially set up concrete. I think all this training has me ready for the Olympics. There is a freestyle shoveling competition, isn’t there? Ha, ha. But playing in the ice and snow afterward was a lot of fun.

Misaki in the Frosty Forest

Misaki in the Frosty Forest

The lucky gal I chose to brave the elements with me today is Metallic Moments Misaki. She is wearing My Scene Madison’s jacket, Bonjour Amelie’s dress, a scarf that I made myself, Fashion Royalty tights and (even though you can’t see them) Blonde Ye-Ye Misaki’s boots. Her photo was taken in our side yard during the brightly overcast afternoon while a misty drizzle was falling.

You can’t turn on the TV without hearing about the wintry mix that is headed our way. I’m hoping that it’s more hype than what will actually hit us. We went through a major ice storm a few years back and the power was out for a week. I’d not like to go through that again. But Mother Nature does what she wants. So we’ve loaded up on groceries and firewood with the hopes that we won’t actually need them.

Jeannie and the Icicles

Jeannie and the Icicles

Today’s model is Crazy Girl Misaki. I named her Jeannie after my Mom, since she helped me get her (I did work around her house in exchange for dollie money). She’s wearing a Moxie Girls top and skirt (I had to cut the attached underwear out of the skirt for it to fit), a Fashion Fever Barbie jacket and Trendy Girl Misaki’s scarf. Her photo was taken in front of our house in the late afternoon. As you can see, we already have some big icicles hanging off the roof, so I guess they’ll be super sized when the ice storm comes.

LOL, it’s the circle of life. The ice was still wrapping the trees this morning. And then we were treated to some wet snow. But all good things must come to an end. The sun broke out, warmed everything up and it all started to melt away. The woods were alive with dripping sounds and ice cracking and falling from above. Crazy. The forecast is for a refreeze tonight and snow tomorrow.

Erin Watches The Ice Melt

Erin Watches The Ice Melt

Today’s model is Painted Black Erin. She’s wearing a long-sleeved shirt from a Barbie fashion pack, a mini dress borrowed from Monsieur Z’s First Class, Zodiac Barbie’s shrug and a hat from one of Barbie’s Fashion Avenue outfits. Erin’s photo was taken in my side yard in the morning sunlight by an ice encrusted pine tree.

It was a fun day for photos with the ice on everything in the morning and then the sun coming out later. It was so bizarre listening to what sounded like the whole world dripping when the ice was melting. It wasn’t just for fashion’s sake that Erin was wearing a hat – the snow was wet and so were all the drips, but the falling ice was a tiny bit scary. I kept my hood up and tried to avoid walking under the trees with higher limbs. 😉 Both of us made it through the photo shoot unharmed.
