You’d think after so many days of cloud cover and rain, that if the sun made even the tiniest appearance, I’d have a doll ready for it. But no. We did have some sun peeks today – not too many and not for very long – but I missed it. You see, after all the blah days, I’m finding it hard to get motivated. And then, when I started to get a doll ready, I decided I wanted to make her some ooak jewelry. And while I’ve got my supplies out, why not make a whole mess of jewelry? That was until I saw the severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for your area scrolling across the top of the TV screen. Oh, noes! So I got my dollie ready lickety-split and ran outside.

Wild Poppy

Wild Poppy

As thunder rumbled, clouds raced in and the brightness bled from the sky, I took some photos in the back yard. My lucky victim is the hair workshop Poppy Parker from the Dark Romance convention. She is wearing a fantastically crocheted bikini made by Betty in Canada – also known as watbetty. Her earrings, necklace, bracelets and anklet were assembled by me. While I was scrambling for photos (as the storm made it’s far-too-swift approach), I also disturbed some large rocks that must have had a whole ant civilization living under it. Eeeeeewwwwww!!!!!!!! Ants everywhere! It was all I could do to stay long enough to get the few pictures that I took. Despite all the complications, I did enjoy getting outdoors to create some images and had a good laugh at myself.

I had a super busy day today. First, it was my niece’s first holy communion so we took a long drive to join in the festivities. Then we hit the casino with my mom and stepdad afterward. Now, it’s super late at night and I only had a chance to take three quick doll photos – this was the best of them.

Poppy At The Church

Poppy At The Church

Yeah, it was drizzly and overcast when we got to the church for my niece’s first holy communion. I only had about a minute to grab a few shots before we had to go inside. So, I apologize for the quality of this photo.

Today’s model is Fashion’s Night Out Poppy Parker. She is wearing a Fashion Fever Barbie top, Barbie shorts, a Barbie bracelet and Fashion Royalty earrings. Her photo was taken in front of a church in southeastern PA under cloudy, drizzly skies around midday and lit with the camera’s flash.

It was unseasonably warm yesterday, near eighty degrees. And I knew today was going to be a rainy washout (and that’s exactly what it was). So I doubled up on the photo taking yesterday.

Summer Girl Poppy

Summer Girl Poppy

Today’s model is the hair workshop Poppy from the Dark Romance convention. She’s wearing a swimsuit from the latest Barbie Fashionistas Sassy fashion pack. Her photo was taken in our backyard on a lichen covered branch, in the afternoon, under overcast skies. I adjust the white balance on the camera to the shade setting to keep the scene warm and summery.

I like to work fairy tales and stories into my doll fashion shoots. I also enjoy mixing it up. What if Lady GaGa was invited to the Red Queen’s croquet match?

GaGa In Wonderland

GaGa In Wonderland

Today’s model is the “Out Of The Box” workshop doll from the Dark Romance Fashion Royalty Jason Wu convention. It’s been said that she was inspired by Lady GaGa. She is wearing Regal Solstice Anja’s gown and tulle slip, Wild At Heart Lillith’s earrings and shoes, a Fashion Royalty bracelet, a beaded bracelet made by me and Holiday Barbie’s crown. She also has the flamingo mallet and hedgehog croquet ball borrowed from the Queen of Hearts Barbie. Her photo was taken in my front yard in the afternoon sunshine.

Ahh….today was a beautiful day! Sunshine, blue skies and warm enough to go outside without a coat. Yay! It was my mom’s birthday today, so we went over to her house to celebrate. It was so nice, we ate outdoors. I am so happy that spring is finally here. Yippee!

A Poppy In The Garden

Today’s model is Bergdorf Goodman’s Fashion’s Night Out Poppy. She is wearing an older Barbie top, Barbie Basics jeans, Bonjour Misaki’s sandals, The Royal Weiss Agnes’ earrings, Fashion Royalty sunglasses, Paparazzi Bait Adele’s necklace and a Barbie bracelet. Her photo was taken in my Mom’s front garden in the afternoon sunshine.

The Weather Finally Matches The Calendar. Go Spring!

We’ve had a few teases of springtime weather, but this morning it was winter all over again. I woke up to a scene straight out of a story book. Big, fluffy clumps of snow covered the trees, weighing them down. We only got a couple of inches, but that’s plenty. It’s stopped snowing since and the big melt is already starting to happen.

Today’s model is Wild At Heart Lillith. She is wearing FR2 Dasha’s tank top and jacket, Urban Outfitting Nadja’s trousers and Barbie’s BMR Going To The Game scarf accented with a silkstone Barbie brooch. Her photo was taken this morning in the backyard while the snow was still falling and the clouds were heavy enough to blot out the sun.

Sometimes when I’m taking photos, one thing leads to another. What I mean is, I have one idea, and then it progresses into something else entirely. I’ve gone into my doll clothes stash with one outfit in mind and run across other pieces first or the original item totally eludes me. Before I know it, I’m choosing a different doll that suits the new fashion better. Or, the day starts out sunny and perfect but by the time I get the doll dressed and outdoors everything has changed – clouds move in, the wind picks up, it starts raining or it gets dark outside. Sometimes a photo shoot starts in one part of the yard and ends up in another – with a huge change in the feel of the photo. The sun goes in and out, changing a bright scene into a very moody one. Sometimes one shoot will inspire a totally different shoot that happens days, weeks or months later. You just never know what’s going to happen.

Lovely Luchia

Lovely Luchia

This little cutie is Dress Me Luchia. She’s wearing the gown and jewels from Hollywood Royalty Josephine Baker’s The Jazz Age giftset. Luchia’s been wearing this ensemble for about a year. I have done a couple photo shoots prior to today’s, but they never made the cut. Today while I was sitting on the porch enjoying my morning coffee, I noticed the morning light was gleaming out sporadically from behind the passing clouds. And there was a sprinkling of crystal confetti snow flurries glittering in the golden sunbeams. I rushed indoors and decided to try and catch the action.

The snow flurries were really too sparse to catch in the photos of Luchia, but the light was good. This picture was taken in the side yard, though I’d started out in the front, wandered out back, then over to the other side yard before settling there. Did I mention it was about twenty degrees out? LOL, I took a few breaks indoors when my fingers started tingling. Anyway, after I got my pictures of Luchia, I popped back out to see if I could catch a few snowflakes. My little camera (an Olympus Stylus Tough 8000) has a super macro feature that can get really close and I was hopeful that at least a few snowflakes would come my way.

Mother Nature's Frozen Miniature Works Of Art

Mother Nature's Frozen Miniature Works Of Art

This tiny snowflake is smaller than one of my doll’s eyes, just to give you some perspective. It’s really, really small. It was residing on top of the roof of my husband’s car. The speckles you see are a mix ofย  dust, road dirt and salt (our car rarely sees a car wash). The dust looks like a galaxy of stars from this close, no? I love how the snowflake has an extra arm and a few extra finger prongs. I’m guessing it collided with another snowflake and nabbed the extra bits.ย  It looks like a crystal Frankenstein. ๐Ÿ™‚

When I was getting today’s model ready, a weird/neat/strange idea came to mind. Ya know how all the celebrities now consider little dogs to be the latest fashion accessory? Well, I’m a cat person, so I did my own take on it.

Kessa takes her kitty for a "walk" in the snow.

Kessa takes her kitty, Cassie, for a "walk" in the snow.

Today’s models are Kesenia from the Dark Romance – Jason Wu convention and Cassie, a porcelain cat (named after my dearly departed best cat buddy ever – I still miss her). When Cassie was alive, she was such a little queenie. She had me wrapped around her little pinky toe and I’d do anything for her. So it is with Kessa in this photo shoot – taking her little cat out on a sled so her tiny paws will stay warm and dry.

Kessa is wearing Diamond Society Eugenia’s dress, Bewitching Hour Luchia’s boots, Fashion Royalty tan stockings, and Barbie’s Fashion Avenue Toys R Us exclusive coat. The sled and porcelain cat are both flea market finds. The scene was shot in my side yard by the rock surround over my well pump. The photo was taken around midday during a burst of intermittent sunshine.

Funny thing, my little cat, Bella (a two year old, Siamese/tortoise shell mix) actually likes to ride around the house on a blanket – she hops on and I drag it all around through the rooms until she tires of the game or I literally get too tired. I’m usually the one who poops out first, LOL. So I guess this picture is a bit of a reflection of my reality. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes I spend so much time taking photos, that I end up with a lot at the end of a photo shoot. Even after ditching the bloopers, blurs and not-so-great ones there can be quite a few left to upload. I’m terrible at editing and whittling down my own pictures, so I end up with dozens on my Flickr pages. It’s even harder here, on the blog, because I usually only choose one. Today was pretty much like throwing a dart to choose, because there were so many different ones that I liked. I guess that’s a good thing. Better to have too many favorites than none at all, right?

Poppy in the Land of the Rising Sun

Poppy in the Land of the Rising Sun

Today’s model is Fashion’s Night Out Bergdorf Goodman Poppy Parker. I released her hair from the elastic holding the factory braid in place and brushed it out. She is wearing Disney Mulan’s dress, Heidi Klum Barbie’s earrings and Back to Black Natalia’s shoes.ย  (See my Flickr for photos that show the shoes, if you wish to see them.) Her photo was taken in late afternoon sunshine along side my driveway. I used the white balance correction setting on my camera to give the scene a golden glow.

This time of year, graveyard tours and cemetery walks at older historical locations seem to be quite popular. I don’t know if it’s the recent influx of all the ‘paranormal’ and ‘haunted’ reality television shows fueling it or simply a sign of the season. I remember visiting old graveyards with my family when I was a kid and marveling at how old the dates on the headstones were and how no one seemed to live very long. We have a small cemetery in town that dates back to the Revolutionary War and hubby took me there today. I have to say that despite some dark clouds looming and falling leaves tossing on the wind, it didn’t feel “creepy” to me. In fact, being in the graveyard seemed to fill me with a sense of peace and serenity. Is that weird? Well, whether or not, that’s how I felt: calm, relaxed and free from worry. And I hope all the souls residing there feel the same way.

Poppy In The Graveyard

Poppy In The Graveyard

Today’s doll is a Poppy that’s not a Poppy. This dollie was made for Fashion’s Night Out at the Bergdorf Goodman store in NYC – though it utilizes the Poppy head & body molds, it is not officially considered a Poppy Parker character doll. She is wearing her original earrings and shoes, Cynthia Rowley Barbie’s trenchcoat, an Integrity Toys dress from a baggie doll and a Fashion Royalty multi-strand necklace. Poppy is leaning on a headstone and looking over the rest of the grave markers in the back corner of the cemetery.

I’d Like To Think That The Calmness I Felt In The Graveyard

Came From Being Surrounded By Souls At Peace.
