Here’s the last of the photos from our day at Point Pleasant beach.

Cole Tries Her Luck at the Claw Game

Cole Tries Her Luck at the Claw Game

Today’s model is Painted Black Colette. She is wearing a Fashion Fever Barbie top, Barbie shorts, Barbie sandals and Fashion Royalty earrings. Her photo was taken on the claw game in the arcade on the boardwalk at Point Pleasant, NJ. We had a really great time there.

The beach was great, the boardwalk was fun and the dollie photo ops were incredibly numerous. I have to give a huge shout out to hubby – he indulges me with my dolls – and merely laughs when I haul three beach bags of doll stuff with me for a day at the beach. His encouragement and acceptance are a joy that I am truly grateful for.

The heat wave continues. All the forecast storms have missed us. Nothing here but sultry hotness.

Beautiful Nadja

Beautiful Nadja

Today’s model is Hard Act To Follow Nadja. She is wearing a Barbie tank top and shorts, Barbie bracelets, Fashion Royalty earrings and a dollar store hair clip. Her photo was taken in the afternoon sunshine, in our side yard, by the lilacs.

It’s funny, sometimes when I haven’t played with a doll in a while, I can forget how much I love her. But as soon as she’s in front of the camera lens, it all comes flooding back.

Young, Rich, Beautiful Erin

Young, Rich, Beautiful Erin

Today’s model is Young, Rich, Beautiful Erin. She’s wearing Lady Like Amelie’s bodysuit, Model of the Moment: Pretty Young Thing Marisa’s trousers, Fashion Royalty heels and sunglasses, a Barbie bracelet and a necklace made by me. She’s also carrying a purse from I can’t remember where. Her photo was taken in our front yard in the afternoon shade.

I always laugh a little bit when I hear the phraseΒ pictures don’t lie. Sure they do. Mine do all the time. A flash or upping the exposure can make a dark scene seem bright. By using a larger aperture on the camera, I can blur out anything distracting in the background – putting all of the focus on my little models. There are a million little tricks to get your camera to make things look better or different than they actually are.

Cole Takes A Walk In The Snow

Cole Takes A Walk In The Snow

Today’s model is Checking Out Colette. She’s wearing an ooak knit hat from a talented artist on Esty, an ooak scarf made by me, Cher Barbie’s jacket, a Hillary Duff Barbie top, RuPaul’s jeans and Barbie boots that are covered in snow. Her photo was taken in the late morning in our backyard.

The illusion here is that she’s got a wooden barbecue skewer slipped up the back of her pant leg with about six inches protruding down into the snow on my picnic table so she can appear to be standing on her own, taking a walk in the woods.

You’re In Pictures Now, Baby. Nothin’ Here Is Real! πŸ˜‰

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. When I was younger, I used to think that “wind chill” was a little joke the weathermen made up just to mess with us. I mean, it’s just wind…the actual temperature is what matters. Right? Wrong. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older and really feel the cold now, or maybe it’s that I now live up on a mountain in the woods, but I now believe in “wind chill”. This winter has been simply brutal with the wind whooshing up from behind the house and rattling at it like a restless spirit. And as cold as it gets, it’s always worse when the wind is howling.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

Today’s model is Elements of Surprise Lillith. She is bundled up against the windy chill wearing a scarf and matching head wrap that I made, Versus Barbie’s jacket, Cali Girl Barbie’s dress, striped armlets (which are actually Bratz Pirate’s legwarmers), leggings from the Barbie Millicent Roberts Going To The Game fashion and My Scene boots. Lillith is pictured riding a sled (found at the flea market) down the hill in our yard in the morning sunshine. Don’t let the sunshine fool ya, it was twenty-something degrees with big ol’ wind gusts a-blowin’. Let’s just say, I took a lot of “warm up” breaks indoors during this photo shoot. πŸ™‚

Oh, Yeah, Wind Chill Makes All The Difference. Brrrr!

I was going through some older photos and found a set of doll pictures that I took last year. I never got around to editing them, so they never made it into my Flickr photostream or onto my blog. So, finally they see the light of day…

The Girls Glimpse A Pair Of Deer During A Stroll In The Snow

The Girls Glimpse A Pair Of Deer During A Stroll In The Snow

Deer sightings are pretty common in my neck of the woods, and it seems almost magical when you spot them walking through the snow. So when I found these lovely miniature deer at the flea market, I knew they’d eventually make it into one of my dollie photo shoots.

Today’s models are Painted Black Erin and Odd Girl Out Colette. Erin is wearing the jacket from wave 2 Dynamite Girls Reese and a Barbie scarf that I got in an Advent gift pack. Cole is wearing a jacket and skirt from a Kari Mitchell fashion pack. I set the scene up in my front yard in the morning after a fresh snowfall last December. I remember that one of the neighbors was outside kinda looking over and I figured they probably thought I was crazy, but, eh, I’ve grown accustomed to that, so it really didn’t matter. πŸ˜‰ The important thing is just to get the shot and have fun doing it.

Do you remember cutting out paper snowflakes when you where a kid? I do. It was a lot of fun. I remember cutting shapes into the pattern, especially hearts and Christmas trees. I also remember the mess of little white bits everywhere. Good times. πŸ™‚

Cole And The Paper SnowFlakes

Cole And The Paper SnowFlakes

Today’s model is Odd Girl Out Colette. She is wearing a Barbie Santa hat and Christmas dress, Red Rabbit Misaki’s stockings, Urban Outfitting Nadja’s gloves, Fire Fly Agnes’ boots and a scarf that I made myself. She’s holding a paper snowflake garland that I found a Target a few years ago. She’s standing on a ladder that you’ve seen in previous shoots. And if the background looks familiar, it’s because it’s taken in front of the Christmas tree and decked out pine garlands surrounding the front windows in my living room.

This morning I spent a good amount of time fussing over a doll. I delved into the toy box for the perfect fashion. Then, I sifted through the shoe closet for the proper footwear. Finally, I poured through more little boxes choosing just the right jewelry. I loaded my dollie and two cameras into the car and went out into the great, big world.

Cole Is Spotted Shopping

Cole Is Spotted Shopping

For all my good intentions, it wasn’t until sunset that I found time to take a photo. I’m kinda disappointed because I would have loved to spend a lot of time and pick up all the little details with the aid of afternoon sunshine. I also would have liked to get at least one full length shot so you could see her boots. I think this gal may be entitled to another photo shoot in the future. Ah, well, moving on…

My poor, neglected model is Grand Arrival Colette. She is wearing Miracle Child Ayumi’s dress, Dressmaker Details Twinkle Tweed jacket, Sterling Silver Rose Barbie’s gloves, LIV Daniela’s nylons, black Fashion Royalty boots, Dark Narcissus Kyori’s handbag, Optic Verve Agnes’ necklace, Wild at Heart Eden’s earrings and bracelet and Barbie and Fashion Royalty’s bangle bracelets. Her photo was taken with the aid of the camera’s flash at sunset in the A.C. Moore’s parking lot.

It was so cold this morning. How cold was it? LOL, no this isn’t a set-up for a joke. πŸ˜‰ It was so cold that we had our first frost of the season. I woke up to temps under thirty degrees. And when the sun came up I noticed the telltale sparkles on the fallen leaves. I know how fleeting the morning frost can be, so I grabbed a dollie and ran back out into the icy morning air. It’s so funny trying to take photos of a doll holding a leaf…trying not to drop it… trying to catch the sunlight…trying not to breathe on it… and trying not to handle the leaf by anything other than the stem for fear of melting away the fragile, glittering frost. If a neighbor had looked out the window at me, they’d have laughed or wondered what the heck I was doing. It was cold, but it was so much fun.

Erin Holds A Frosty Leaf

Erin Holds A Frosty Leaf

Today’s model is Painted Black Erin. She’s wearing Dynamite Girls Reese’s coat and a scarf that came with last year’s Barbie advent calendar playset. She’s holding a leaf from the yard which, if you look closely, has frost crystals on it. The photo was taken in my side yard in a shaft of early morning sunshine.

There once was a time when doll collectors bought a doll, left it in the box and displayed it on a shelf. Or (horrors!) they took the doll out of the box but left it in original condition and placed it in a curio cabinet to admire. Collecting has come a long way since then. Many collectors now actually play with their dolls. There are people who photograph them, create photo stories, sew for them, reroot their hair, make jewelry, build furniture and dioramas for them. Remembering the fun of playing with dolls as children, adult collectors are rediscovering their youth, but with the talent and wisdom of their age. And now it’s okay to play again.

Empress Nadja

Empress Nadja

Look familiar? Yes, I know I photographed Illusionist Nadja yesterday. Her original outfit is outstanding and the complete look certainly warranted a photo. However, Nadja is so pretty, I wanted to find something to redress her in and get her in front of the camera again. I found the perfect fashion on my Empress of Emeralds Barbie. So, Nadja borrowed her gown and crown and then added a few more pieces to complete the look. The beaded belt from One Modern Circle Barbie acts as a choker, add a Fashion Royalty bangle bracelet, the bracelet from Power Couple Erin and the necklace, too (wrapped twice around the wrist, it becomes another bracelet) and the earrings from Festive Decadence Agnes to bring it all together.

Nadja is posed in my side yard in front of my hybrid double-flowering morning glories. The scene is lit with generous amounts of bright afternoon sunlight.
