If you’re reading this, thanks for checking in. I’ve been away longer than intended, but precisely as long as I needed.  Before the break, hubby & I had taken a few day trips down the shore. I brought a hoard of dolls and took so many pictures that I never really did share them all. So I’ll just pick up where I left off…

Eat Your Heart Out, Farrah Fawcett!

Eat Your Heart Out, Farrah Fawcett!

Today’s model is a frankendollie: an Old Is New Giselle head on a Poppy Parker body. She is wearing a Barbie bathing suit – from a Fashionistas clothing pack, I think. In her hair are tiny clips from the dollar store. Her photo was taken at the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey.

Once again, it was hard to choose a favorite, there were so many. If you’d like to see the other ones, just click on my Flickr link.

Um, I’m not sure if I’m going to make it to post here tomorrow. But I don’t think I’ll be gone all that long.

I’ve really been enjoying the springtime weather. The sun came up as a pinkish orange smudge, struggling behind the early haze. I saw my first Baltimore oriole of the season in our maple tree this morning while I was having coffee on the front porch. I’ve been playing tag with the chipmunks, chasing them out of the flowerbeds. My seedlings are sprouting like champions in our little greenhouse – it won’t be long before I start adding them to the gardens. The butterflies have been flitting about, dodging my camera, but not for long. It’s simply wonderful. I love spring.

Can You Smell Them? Mmmmm! So Sweet.

Can You Smell Them? Mmmmm! So Sweet.

Today’s model is Old Is New Giselle. I’ve switched out her original body for a Poppy Parker body. She is wearing LIV: It’s My Nature Hayden’s tank top and shorts and a Barbie bracelet. Her photo was taken in our front garden, softly lit by the hazy afternoon sunshine.

Every now and then, I like to do a very simple shoot. No elaborate backgrounds or fabulous fashions, no jewelry or fussing about with hair…just a focus on a beautiful face and nothing more.

Simply Giselle

Simply Giselle

Today’s model is a frankendollie: an Old Is New Giselle on a Model Muse Barbie body. Her fashion is not a garment at all, just a piece of fancy trim wrapped around her. The background is a sheet of bronze scrapbook paper. The lighting is provided by a very overcast afternoon sky. I adjusted the white balance on the camera for shade to warm up the coloring of the photograph.

Simple, Easy, Pretty.

We started the new year off right with some shopping today. We hit a few Target & Walmart stores looking for clearance sales and new dollies. And we found a little bit of both. There were a few doll finds that made me very happy. I also got a chance to peek in Hobby Lobby and I didn’t leave there empty handed either. 🙂

Barbie's Got Good Jeans

Barbie's Got Good Jeans

Today’s model is Barbie Basics: Model 14, collection 2.0 – the Blue Jeans collection. This doll utilizes the Louboutin/Glimmer head mold and model muse body. She wearing her original outfit, with the addition of Old Is New Giselle’s jacket. Her photo was taken in the early evening gloom in my front yard. The green bench was a flea market find. I used a quarter-strength flash to light the scene without washing it out too much.

I was so happy to find any of the Jeans gals since I’ve been looking for what seems like forever. I did also find one of the guys. I’m sure you’ll be seeing him in one of my photo sessions soon. He is very handsome. I’m still on the look out for the red-haired Goddess face mold model, too. I think she is fantastic. I really like this model 14 (poor girl needs a name – I think she looks like a “Susan”, no?). Her hair is so soft and pretty. If she had an articulated body, she’d be perfect. But I guess I can stand a few model muse bods in my collection. Not everyone can be a mover and a shaker, I guess. 😉

Sometimes it feels as though I am forever waiting. I’m waiting for a new doll to arrive. I wait for my photos to download. I wait for the end of the day when my sweetheart comes home from work. I wait for the weekend so we can spend some time together. Always waiting. And it seems that the things I wait for happen so fast. So, that before I know it, I am waiting again.

Giselle: Watching And Waiting

Giselle: Watching And Waiting

Today’s model is another Frankendollie: An Old Is New Giselle head on a Model Muse Barbie body. She is wearing a dress formerly worn by an older Fashion Fever Barbie. To achieve this image, I held the doll in one hand against the sliding glass door and my camera in the other (with the flash off). The afternoon lighting was fairly low, just enough to make a hand held shot dicey, but I was still enough to prevent shake. I love the way the light falls on her face, yet the shadows crowd in close behind her. It certainly was worth the struggle of juggling the doll, the camera and holding my breath to get a sharp shot.

Have you ever looked up into the heavens and wondered if we’re alone in the universe? Do you think there’s life out there somewhere? I have to admit, I’ve wondered. I can remember being a kid and listening to a radio program at my cousin’s house where people were calling in talking about seeing UFO’s. Scared me silly. I’ve seen the Close Encounters and Fire in the Sky movies and read a bunch of Whitley Schrieber’s books, too. Creepy. I’ve also watched a lot of UFO programs on the history and discovery channels. I find the idea intriguing – LOL, not that I want to take a ride on a UFO – just that I think it would be neat to know that there is intelligent life somewhere other than on earth.

Zell and her Alien

Zell and her Alien

Old is New Giselle is wearing Toy Story 3 Barbie loves Alien’s outfit, jewelry and shoes. I also added a random pair of Mattel sunglasses. She is leaning on a concrete doll-sized bench in front of a plastic gazebo (it’s original purpose was wall decor, I removed the backing) – both the bench and gazebo were flea market finds. Giselle’s photo was taken in my front yard, late afternoon, under overcast skies with peeks of sun from time to time.

I’m a big fan of dolls that come dressed in several different fashion pieces. Most times the complete look doesn’t work for me though. I usually find a different doll that could wear the outfit better, or maybe the jacket might look awesome with another top, switch the trousers for a skirt…you get the idea. Whenever I’m choosing new dolls to add to my collection, I’m already playing “dress up” in my mind. There have been so many dolls and outfits that I fell in love with more for their “play” potential than their original look.

Sweet Eugenia

Sweet Eugenia

Deconstruction Sight Eugenia has had the product washed out of her hair for a softer look. She is wearing Old is New Giselle’s jacket, Perk Colette’s blouse (since she’s more well endowed, one button in the back does not close – but it’s covered by the jacket), She Means Business Veronique’s skirt, Paparazzi Bait Adele’s shoes, earrings and necklace and a Fashion Royalty handbag of unknown origins. Eugenia is posing in the side yard by a moss and lichen covered tree in warm afternoon sunlight.

Ah, the sunshine is here! We hit about sixty five degrees today. After the winter we’ve had, it was like a taste of summer. The warm weather had me dreaming of bathing suits and suntan lotion…laying in the sun, drifting off to the sound of music on the radio.

It's Never Too Early To Work On A Tan

It's Never Too Early To Work On A Tan

Old Is New Giselle brings the indoors out with all the comforts of home. She’s wearing a bikini from a My Scene fashion pack and Summer Blues Misaki’s platform sandals. She’s laying on a random Mattel beach towel, with a Bratz towel rolled up to rest her head on. A bottle of suntan lotion (on the towel) from Mattel keeps her fair skin from burning. She’s got a frisbee, magazines, a hairbrush and a radio – also Mattel products. Behind her is a tote from Staples office supply filled with ice and tasty friuts & beverages, all of which are Mattel issue as well.
