Ah, modern conveniences! One of the nicest things this modern world offers is the ability to do my Christmas shopping while sitting on the couch sipping coffee. With the world wide web, I have a million choices right at my fingertips. Search, choose, checkout, done. In a few days, the UPS guy or the mail carrier brings me what I ordered and all that’s left is wrapping. Now, the internet will never replace my love of actually getting out in the world and shopping in person, but it’s great for the things I can’t find elsewhere or when I’m stuck at home.
Today’s model is a Frankendollie: a Ladies of the 80s: Debbie Harry Blondie Barbie head on a Pop Life pivotal Barbie body. Blondie’s hair has been washed out, brushed, air dried and fluffed. She is wearing the night dress from last year’s Target Happy Holidays Barbie, I think the bathrobe came from a Disney’s Sleeping Beauty pajama doll from the Disney store, the socks are from the Happy Birthday Angel Barbie and the fuzzy slippers once belonged to a Barbie, though I’ve forgotten precisely which one. The laptop is a Hallmark Christmas ornament and the coffee cup was made by Mattel.
Blondie’s furniture is from the Barbie Jonathan Adler collection. The floor is two marble tiles from Home Depot and the wallpaper is two sheets of scrapbook paper taped together and push pinned to a piece of foam core. The JA mirror is hanging from a tiny screw that I pushed into the foam core after making a pilot hole with a push pin. The scene was shot indoors, in my living room, lit with two lamps and the camera’s flash.
